Join us for Friends and Contemporaries: A Classical Music Performance
We are proud to present a classical performance of violin and cello pieces performed by Bronx musicians Karen Kim and Sophie Shao. The event will be on Sunday February 9th at 1 PM.
A native of Houston, Ms. Shao began playing the cello at age six, and continued her cello studies with Aldo Parisot at Yale University, receiving a B.A. in Religious Studies from Yale College and an M.M. from the Yale School of Music. She is a winner of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant and top prizes at the Rostropovich and Tchaikovsky competitions, is a versatile and passionate artist whose performances the New York Times has described as “eloquent, powerful."
Grammy Award-winning violinist Karen Kim is widely hailed for her sensitive musicianship and passionate commitment to chamber and contemporary music. A graduate of the New England Conservatory, she has performed in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, and more. She is also a member of the award-winning Jasper String Quartet, in addition to her career as a soloist.
The performance will be held in the Community Room on the first floor of the main building. Admission is free, but there is an option to donate in support of future RNH Arts Programming.
